Many homeowners who are choosing to install lean to conservatories are doing so on a relatively tight budget. They are often discouraged at the labour and installation costs that are added on to the price of the conservatory materials themselves, which can be quite substantial. It is now becoming more and more common for people to order lean to conservatory kits, with the intention of taking on the installation work themselves from start to finish. This is obviously a great way of saving yourself some money while still getting the structure you have always wanted. It can also make a great little project that can be completed in your spare time. The satisfaction you will get from using a conservatory will be much greater if you have put in your own time and effort to construct it.
What are Kits Comprised of?
A lean to conservatory kit will basically contain all of the pieces necessary to build the structure, along with a set of instructions. The kit may or may not include the lean to conservatory base. This will sometimes need to be built separately by a professional and needs to be completed before you can begin work on the conservatory itself.
The materials you will receive will usually include the white PVCu frame, two opening vents to control the temperature, toughened safety glass panels, gutters and downpipes to remove water, French doors for access, roof panels which will either be glass or 25mm/35mm polycarbonate, an instruction manual and a full guarantee from the manufacturer (hopefully lasting 10 years or more). This usually make up a basic lean to conservatory kit package. In addition you will be able to specify any extra materials, such as additional vents, when ordering.
Completing the Installation
You will need some building experience or to at least be very competent in DIY work if you want to construct your own conservatory. When lean to conservatory kits are delivered, you are essentially left on your own to complete the work. Obviously you will have the instruction manual, and the supplier will often provide some kind of helpline, but that will be no substitute for the experience of a professional installer. We highly recommend taking on these projects with someone to help you out. At least one of you will need some experience in the building trade.
Price
Basic dwarf wall lean to conservatory kits will start at around £1000. Bare in mind that you will often to need to purchase extra materials, such as the bricks and cement for constructing the dwarf wall. Anything in the £1000 price range will be a small, very basic lean to design. When you begin thinking about infill or full length glass conservatories with custom coloured or wood effect PVCu, prices are going to be at least £2000, and will increase if you want to build larger structures. You will really need personalised quotations to get any accurate figures.
